| Elephants are supposed to be protected under a UN agreement that bans the international trade of ivory. But, some African countries regularly request exemptions to sell their ivory, creating demand that’s led to a black market that’s deadly for elephants.
Already in 2012, in just a single national park in Cameroon, between 300 and 650 elephants have been killed for their tusks. The total estimated population is just 3,000-5,000 in the entire country. Last year there were an unprecedented number of seizures of illegal ivory. But the ivory trade — and the elephant poaching that feeds it — is on the rise worldwide. Leaders in the European Union need to stand up for elephants and do something about it. Sign the petition to demand that the EU take action to stop the poaching and end the ivory trade »

Originally written by Olivia Newton-John for a documentary entitled the “The Last Whale”, this song, Silent Ruin, was included on the 1994 album, Gaia, with the word “whale” changed to “wild”. I have used it to illustrate the continuing plight of the thousands of pilot whales killed annually by the people of the Faeroe Islands. WARNING – Please note that some of the images are shocking and may cause some people distress The petition can be found at: www.delphinschutz.org Thanks
why dose man have to kill everything
| Climate change isn’t the only thing hurting the remaining population of polar bears. On top of facing disappearing habitats, food, and extra difficulty finding mates, polar bears are being ruthlessly killed by sport hunters.
Despite concerns that polar bear populations are declining, the territory of Nunavut significantly increased the hunting quota for the population in 2011. There is also an increase in polar bear skin sales. We may not be able to stop climate change effectively right away, but we CAN pass stronger laws against hunting them! Help urge the Canadian government to stop continuing the tragic polar bear demise. Sign the petition to tell decisionmakers to end polar bear sport hunting and the sale of polar bear products! » |

Stop the massacre off prairie dogs
Take action link: http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AGEY_/zmH5/BU7r0
| People should have the right to enjoy their environment’s wildlife on their own property. So why is a town in Colorado literally forcing homeowners to massacre prairie dogs on their own property?Forcing people into slaughtering prairie dogs on their land or face a $1,000 fine sounds a lot like blackmail to me. » Starting today, Frederick, Colorado officials will enforce an ordinance requiring private landowners to remove prairie dogs from their property. Failure to eliminate the animals will result in fines up to $1,000. Fearful of short deadlines and steep fines, some property owners will resort to dangerous, cruel methods to kill prairie dogs residing on their private land. Toxic chemicals used to eradicate the creatures will threaten environmental and human health in the area. Prairie dogs have the right to reside in the wild, and property owners have the right to let them live in peace. Stand up for prairie dogs in Colorado! » |

| Intermarche is a French supermarket chain that takes pride in being sustainable and responsible. However, their choice to sell endangered sharks proves them otherwise. This is not acceptable! » |
| Intermarche sells the meat of baby big eye thresher sharks, a species that is in rapid decline. |

How We Won
Jan 31, 2012
Within 24 hours of generating tens of thousands of e-mails, thousands of Facebook and Twitter posts on Air France’s public sites, and hundreds of phone calls to the airline’s cargo offices (so many that the airline shut down its phone line and Facebook wall!), PETA supporters convinced Air France to cancel the shipment of 60 monkeys to cruel deaths at a notoriously awful laboratory.
Thank you,
PETA
Why This Is Important
PETA has just learned that Air France plans to transport 60 monkeys this Wednesday (February 1) from Africa to the U.S. for use in cruel and deadly experiments at the notorious Shin Nippon Biomedical Laboratories (SNBL), where PETA recently conducted an investigation that unveiled shocking cruelty.
We need your help to urge the airline to cancel this shipment!
If Air France moves ahead with its plans, the monkeys, supplied by an African facility run by the infamous Bioculture, will be crammed into tiny wooden crates and shipped to Paris in the dark and terrifying cargo hold of a passenger plane. The monkeys will then be loaded onto a cargo plane and transported to Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Upon their arrival in the U.S. on February 2, the monkeys will be subjected to yet another exhausting trip as they are loaded into the back of a truck and transported to SNBL. In total, these terrified monkeys will endure more than 80 hours of grueling transport before they arrive at SNBL, where they will likely be tormented and killed in cruel experiments.
The monkeys are currently scheduled to arrive in the U.S. this Thursday, February 2. With time running out, your voice is needed now.
Please send an e-mail to Air France officials now and urge them to cancel this shipment and join the growing number of airlines who refuse to ship primates for use in invasive experiments.
